HULA STORYBOARD

Camera goes through a dense grass until pick of the mountain with strange looking building emerges from the background.  Shot with the micro action in the grass ( ladybird climbs onto the blade of grass, butterfly flies… clouds movement).
Idyllic and deceptive calm is disturbed by sudden mechanic sound (engine perhaps) and air become to wave as temperature goes higher. Scene inside the grass judders and colours become burned. Poor ladybird escape with burned body, mushroom change the shape as temperature goes high.  Out of the blue the glowing ray of light strikes from above and few more poles of rays appears in the background. Part of odd metal tin looking shape emerges from the top of the shot showing body of the alien and the camera shows up the lower part of the hill where the building stands.
Camera turns to aliens face depicting potty, brainless aliens face. Camera turns back to the temple again, and again to the alien who flies towards a temple leaving beautiful landscape (background) behind. Close up at the aliens face (reflection of the portal to the temple grows biger and biger in aliens eyes as he approach the building.
Darkness. Interior  seems to be broad and much expansive than you would judge from outside.  Further between the columns a light indicates there is something.  As alien approaches the light, a standing stone appears with the heavy old book on it. Alien comes closer and open the book. Pages flicks through and turn to page with Leonardos Vitruvian Man.
The picture on the page comes alive and Vitruvian Man grabs the circle, puts on his hips and spin it round. Aliens jaw drops, his eyes pops out the orbits  and as the Vitruvian Man is dancing on the page (2D rotoscoping animation) Alien realizes that the grove his population has (down the waist and along the head and torso) is for the hula hop they were looking for centuries!!! Once he realizes that, a glowing hula hop appears round his waist and alien slowly, unsteadily and diffidently starts move his hips and spin the hula hop round his metal body the way Vitruvian Man does.
Music starts as he dances and more aliens in the background repeating the movements. Colourful lights switch on from the ceiling and real disco comes alive.
As camera goes up into the air last shot shows loud disco temple from the top and sound of music recedes gradually.  Shot of temple and hills around it from the air is the last scene.

Once the whole idea and story has been roughly outlined I started to visualize the main character and began
character design  process. I wanted our character to be very simple and blocky since we're not an
animators and such a form of simple shape is less complicated to put into the motion than a complex
    organic object.

I came up with some simple shapes which suppose to convey the character of the robot. We decided to
create dumb looking, thoughtless little robot made of the old looking mechanical parts. It was suppose to
be a veteran soldier with many dents in his shields and rusted wholes.

Different type of faces. We may use some of them for the other metal soldiers at the further stages...
Although we has't made any colour test for the main character and no accessories has been designed
for that purpose. We will do it at the later stage too as the story is developing during making process and we
may change some things to enhance the story and figure out new details.

Simultaneously to the character design we discussed the look of the temple and after some initial quick
sketches and trials with different shapes and references ( Filip had idea of making Japanese style ruins -
unfortunately I haven't got the sketch he produced) All in all we agreed that my design of Maya civilization
type of building will blend in nicely with the vegetation models and environment.

Final model I modelled in Modo 501 and test renders below represents the building and first test shots
where temple appears without the vegetation models and final textures .

Filip made some really good looking vegetation models (leaves and branches) which we will use later to
wrap the temple up and give it an old look of abandoned ruins of bygone civilization.
    Leaves and branches test

I may add later some models of damaged monuments and ruins around the temple similar to the ones
    below.

Currently I finishing up the model interior of the temple. At first it was supposed to be modest architecture
attempt but has grown up and more camera angles may be used later on.
